A Simple Event
(Yek ettefagh-e sadeh)

Mohammad, a ten-year-old little boy, lives in a village at the edge of the Caspian Sea. His father, a clandestine fisherman, who does not earn enough money to support his family, drinks the little money he makes. Mohammad’s mother, gravely ill, manages to take care of the household chores.
Mohammad’s situation at school is hopeless : he does not learn a thing. His school has a militaristic system which makes no allowance for the individual. The students must accept to be “nobodies”.
