A Brighter Summer Day

aiwan, 1960. Xiao S’ir is a 14-year-old who has just entered junior high. His father, Zhangju, a middle-aged civil servant, pins his hopes on his five children. Influenced by his father’s humanistic idealism, Xiao S’ir believes that the world can be improved by human will and effort. At school, Xiao S’ir gets involved with a local street gang with which Ming, a young girI, is associated. He falls in love with her and finds himself in the middle of street-gang feuds. Yet he is determined to concentrate on his studies.
