Israeli filmmaker Ari questions his former comrades-in-arms from the 1982 invasion of Lebanon in order to fight a troubling form of amnesia around this period of his life. As a psychological investigation, this animated film flushes out the memory of the Sabra and Shatila massacre – when Lebanese Christian militia murdered the residents of these Palestinian camps under the eyes of a surrounding Israeli army. Twenty years later and with an intelligence that is now more relevant than ever, Ari Folman takes the Israeli psyche as a subject.
