A large fishing boat has been wrecked and many fishermen are missing with no hope of return. The little fishing pot has many widows including Hae-Soon who lives with her mother in law. One day she is raped by Sung-Goo who works for a charcoal maker. Her only solution is to follow him to the big city and live with him. Unfortunately, Sung-Goo is ordered to the war effort at the front and, when Hae-Soon is forced to return to her village, she starts to loose her mind. Every day, she climbs the hill overlooking for her husband who will never return.
