This film by Tran Vu could also have been called « Nostalgia for Countryland », but it was made in a completely different context and a whole other era of Vietnamese cinema. We Will Meet Again is supported by a retrospective ambition that gives the flashback the function of linking together the strata of Vietnam’s past and present. Meeting in a combat zone, a man and a women reminisce about a nascent love at a Quan Ho music festival that took place many years before. The characters’ feelings and national fate consequently write a shared story of resistance. Nguyen Nhu Quynh’s first appearance on-screen. JB
