At the end of the 18th century, João Fernandes is the Portuguese Crown’s representative in the Diamantino region, home to Brazil’s richest diamond mines. He falls in love with the slave Xica da Silva, whose every desire he satisfies. Alerted by the couple’s enemies, the King of Portugal sends an emissary to better control Xica’s power.
