Aochi, a German teacher cornes across Nakasago, a one-time colleague of his. The two men meet a geisha called Koine.
Six months later, Aochi, hearing his friend Nakasago got married, visits the newlywed. He finds out with surprise, that Nakasago’s wife, Kono,has a striking resemblance to Koine. To entertain Aochi that evening, Nakasago plays Pablo de Saraste’s Zigeunerweisen on a phonograph.
But Nakasago leaves his pregnant wife and hits the road with Koine. Kono, dies after giving birth to a baby girl. Nakasago returns home and lets Koine into the house to take care of the baby. He leaves again and meets a mysterious death.
Five years later, Aochi receives a visit from Koine who asks him to give back the record of de Sarasate. Aochi is sure he does not bave the record. Koine, however, insists that he has it. Where is the record now and why does Koine want it back?
