In a euphoric South Africa, two years after the country’s first democratic elections. Thandeka, a young black journalist lives in fear of her country’s past. She is no longer able to work and the relationship with her thirteen-year-old deaf daughter, Mangi, is increasingly fraught. But one day an old woman, Me’Tau, pays a visit to the newspaper offices. Ten years earlier, Thandeka has witnessed the murder of the old woman’s daughter, Dineo, by the secret police.
