Naoto Takenaka was born in Yokohama in 1956. He made his acting debut in a TV show in 1983. His predilection for black humor made him a great success, especially with young people in the city. A multi-faceted actor, Takenaka has worked in film, theater, television and video. In 1990, he founded a small theater company that toured throughout Japan. Takenaka’s favorite filmmakers are Yasujiro Ozu, Jacques Tati and Ermanno Olmi. The Man from Nowhere is his first feature film.
